Mortimer’s Cross 1461 Battlefield Project

Talks by Leading Battlefield and Landscape Archaeologists

Battlefield experts and enthusiasts are working together to investigate the Wars of the Roses Battlefield Site at Mortimer’s Cross Near Kingsland, North Herefordshire

The highly regarded investigating archaeologists, Dr Glenn Foard (battlefield) and Dr Tracey Partida (landscape) will explain what their roles will be and they will outline the activities planned to share their findings with the community. At this meeting we will be asking for two main things:

  • Information from the community about the battle: so reported or actual finds; place names; folklore and stories as to where the bodies might be buried. Much of this information may have become badly distorted over the centuries but perhaps one or two snippets may be very valuable and they will all be followed up. Please contact Patricia Pothecary 01568 708597 patricia@pothecary.net if you have information or ideas you would like to share.
  • We will be seeking volunteers and the call for these will go out in stages as the project proceeds. Volunteers will be needed for specific tasks such as local document research or chasing local information and also some for fieldwork.

Come along to find out more about this exciting project

If you would like to take part in events, find out more about the local historic landscape or  help search for evidence then join us at the meeting or contact the Project Director Gary Ball on MX1461cbap@gmail.com
