Anniversary of the Wars of the Roses battle, fought in 1461 almost on our doorstep. The Mortimer’s Cross pub now stands roughly in the centre of what would have been the battlefield on that day.

The village is old as we all know but the population now is more or less what it was six hundred years ago – things don’t change too quickly round here. However, the amenities and services in the village have improved from those on offer to our medieval ancestors.

 

Wigmore Shop (Mortimer Country Stores)

Our community shop – providing a range of local produce, fresh vegetables, salads, pies, meats, cakes, yogurts, breads and much much more  – is run by a band of volunteers.

Wigmore Village Hall

The hall is available to hire for parties, classes, meetings etc. for only£15 per hour for the whole hall.

A discount may be available for multiple bookings and community events.

Seating, dinner service and cutlery for 100 people and use of the kitchen is included in the price.

Wigmore Leisure Centre

Wigmore Leisure Centre is a dual-use facility used by Wigmore High School in the daytime and opens up in the late afternoon and evening to members of the public who can use the fitness suite and exercise classes.

The fitness suite has both fitness and strength building equipment including cardiovascular and resistance machines, treadmills, cycles, rowing machines, free weights and muscle building equipment of various sorts.
