Anniversary of the Wars of the Roses battle, fought in 1461 almost on our doorstep. The Mortimer’s Cross pub now stands roughly in the centre of what would have been the battlefield on that day.

Volunteering

VOLUNTEER-1

There are various opportunities to get involved in local activities and one of these is to volunteer – offer your time and skills for the benefit of the community.

In Wigmore alone volunteers contribute well over 8000 hours every year to the community. Without such contributions many local enterprises would simply collapse.

Volunteer openings are available at:

Wigmore Shop (Mortimer Country Stores)

A community run shop and acts as a hub for the village. You can choose your hours and choose how much time you spend. Give Alison a call on 01568 770307 or email wigmoreshop@hotmail.co.uk

For more information on the shop visit the Wigmore Shop page.

TVYP (Teme Valley Youth Project)

A centre for young people – if you are interested in volunteering your time and expertise please call 01568 770110.

For more information on TVYP visit their website here.

Clubs

Many of our clubs have a need for volunteers in helping to organise events and meetings. For information visit our clubs page.

The Cinnamon Trust

The Cinnamon Trust is the national charity for the elderly and terminally ill and their pets. They seek to keep owner and pet together for as long as possible with the help of a national network of volunteers who assist when day to day care poses a problem. Their aim is to relieve the owners of any worry concerning the welfare of their pets both during and after their own lifetime making them unique among charities.

All volunteers help in the ways that are most appropriate to them. Volunteers take it in turn to visit housebound owners to take their dogs for walks, they help with cat care, volunteers foster pets as one of their family when owners face a spell in hospital, they take pets to the vet, even clean the budgie’s cage out.

At least one resident of Wigmore is looking for this kind of help now but the charity doesn’t have enough volunteers to help.

For further information contact Sally direct on 01736 758707 or email sallycollins@cinnamon.org.uk .

Potential volunteers can gain access the charity’s volunteer page  or you can email them at volunteer@cinnamon.org.uk

Any help you are able to give will be very gratefully accepted.

Village Hall

The village hall committee is interested in residents joining this community group and assisting in organising and promoting activities in the hall.
